"Flora & Kyoto"

Three of my photos have been selected to illustrate the article:

The Sacred Trees of Kyoto

written by Codi Hauka

"Kyoto has officially recognized 234 large and important trees, nearly half of which stand in the precincts of shrines or temples. The stories of these ancient trees quietly manifest the narrative arcs and twists of Kyoto’s long and deep relationship with its natural environment."

From Kyoto Journal #104, Spring 2023, "Flora & Kyoto"

STORIED is a magazine and online journal from Kyoto, inspired by the people, places, crafts and culture of Japan.

Behind the figure of Yakusugi (Millenary Old Cedar from Yakushima), I used my photos and words to share my point of view about the ancestral knowledge that old forests can bring us now to help for solving issues of our contemporary times.
